What is a Lift Chair and Why do I Need One?
Have you been debating on whether or not you need a lift chair in your home? The team at Adapt Home Health Care hears several questions about lift chairs and when to know that you need one. That’s why we created this blog to show what a lift chair is and how to know if you need one!
What is a Lift Chair?
A lift chair is a machine that can help make an individual with limited mobility lives easier. It is a piece of medical equipment that an individual requires like a cane or a walker. It is similar to a la-z-boy because it helps provide the same or more comfort as a lazy-boy/recliner but different in terms of providing additional support to help reduce the risk of sores, ulcers and is able to provide a greater range in terms of movement (ie lying down to standing all the way up)
Different Ways to Use a Lift Chair
There are several different ways to use a lift chair. Every lift chair is designed with different purposes in mind. Some of those purposes include:
Sitting/Standing
If you struggle with mobility in the form of sitting and standing, a lift chair may be the perfect fit for your home and your life. These chairs allow you to control the height and position of the seat with the push of a button making getting up and sitting down less of a struggle.
Sleeping/Sitting
If you are looking for a lift chair that you can also sleep in, this is an important part of the criteria that you must be looking for. The chair will need to fully recline and the footrest will have to be raised. Some chairs even offer a setting for the footrest to be raised high enough for your feet to sit above your heart to improve circulation. Also, if you plan on spending an extended period of time in the chair, it is important that the seat is comfortable!
What Does a Lift Chair Do?
Lift chairs do a lot more than just help the user sit and stand. They also:
- Offer for multiple lift and recline positions
- Optimal comfort positions that promote health, wellness, and relaxation
- Ability to lift to the standing position at the touch of a button
- Electric quick release handle control
- Rear landing legs offering additional stability
- Heat and massage systems optional
- Available in various styles, sizes, fabrics, and colours
The type of chair you get and the options it comes with are completely up to you and what you desire!
